DJD109 - What Would Jesus Have Me Do

Scripture:
Nehemiah 2:4,5

Starting Question:

What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?

What Would Jesus Have Me Do

WWJD. You’ve probably seen the bumper stickers, wristbands, T-shirts, and coffee mugs. WWJD - What Would Jesus Do?

It’s a great question but it’s not actually what people mean when they say it.

A single mother has just lost her only son in a tragic accident. She’s walking past you at the funeral. WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Jesus would reach out, wake the boy, lift him out of the coffin and give him to his mother. That’s what Jesus would do.

A group of people are on a hillside when they realise everyone is hungry. It’s a long way back to town. WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Jesus would find a boy with a small lunch and bless it so that it fed everyone. That’s what Jesus would do.

A place is filled with evil, sin and broken lives. Many of the people don’t even realise they are dying. WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Jesus would walk into that place, live a perfect life, and die in a way that saved all of them. That’s what Jesus would do.

What Jesus would do is very important. Because He is our example. But He is also our Saviour and Jesus does things we cannot. That’s why he came to Earth, did miracles, raised the dead and died to save us from Sin. The question we should ask today is: What Would Jesus Have Me Do?

For the single mother who has lost her son: we can cry with her, pray for her and hold her hand until she knows we love her. And tell her about Jesus who raises the dead.

For the hungry in the world: we can do what the little boy did, share our lunch. And more - we can find free food and give it to the poor. And tell them about Jesus who fills our greatest hunger.

For the evil world lost in sin: We can take help to them, lead them out of darkness, and care for their needs. And we can tell them about Jesus who died to heal broken lives and give life that never ends.

WWJHMD - What Would Jesus Have Me Do? We don’t need a new bumper sticker, wristband, t-shirt or coffee mug. We need new hearts with WWJHMD written on them. And new eyes that see the hurting mothers, the hungry people and the broken lives. Because they need Jesus.

Reflection Question:

What do you think Jesus has for you do, today?

Prayer time:
Before you pray together, ask: What would you like to say to Jesus today?
