DJD104 - Taste and See

Scripture:
Matthew 6:11

Starting Question:
What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

Taste and See

When the Children of Israel were fleeing from Egypt God fed them. He made bread fall from the sky. What would you do if  Bread fell from the sky? Free bread!

Each week I take bread to the schools where I am the chaplain and give it to the students, teachers and families. As I walk around with a bag of bread giving it away, I get asked two questions. First, where did the bread come from? And second, how did you get it?

The people escaping from Egypt asked the same thing. In fact, they named the bread “What is it?” That’s what Manna means! Imagine little pieces of sweet bread falling all around you. “What is it!?” Then you taste some. “YUMMY!”

The bread that I give away is the left over at the end of the day at a local bakery. Each night they give their leftover bread to charities. I am one of the lucky people who gets their bread and I share it with hundreds of people each week.

Manna was made special for the people by God and provided all the nourishment they needed. It fed thousands of people. Manna fell from the sky. All they had to do was pick it up.

Jesus is a lot like Manna. He is a gift from God. He came to Earth from Heaven. He provides everything we needed to live forever. Lots of People ask Manna questions about Jesus. “Who was Jesus?” “Why should I trust Him?”

Likewise, the Bible is like Manna. It is a gift from God. It feeds our hearts with everything we need for a balanced spiritual life. Lots of people ask Manna questions about the Bible, too. “What is it?” “Where did it come from?”

And in both cases, the answer is, “Taste and see.”

Try Jesus. Put your trust in Him. See what happens.

Try the Bible. Read it daily. Ask God to feed your heart. And, see what happens.

King David taught people to sing, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8).

Reflection Question:
How will you "Taste and see that the Lord is good" today?

Prayer time:
Before you pray together, ask: What would you like to say to Jesus today?
